SHG modifies efforts to compile town’s history

Family stories will be accepted at no charge

SENECA – The story of Seneca continues to be compiled and composed, but with some modifications.

The Seneca Historical Guild met recently to hear an update on the progress and status of the book being published for the upcoming sesquicentennial of the village.

“Members are working diligently to author, compile and finance this special publication,” SHG board member Jeff Maierhofer said.  “We are so grateful for those who have contributed to the content so far, and we continue to encourage everyone to be involved in the book.”

To encourage more participation, all family histories will now be accepted with no charge.

“Our previous payment schedule was confusing and prevented some who wanted to contribute family stories from doing so,” Maierhofer said. “Therefore, we have eliminated any cost for including a family history.

“If your family has been a part of Seneca, present or past, we would enjoy including it in the book. Whether it is just a paragraph or a page with pictures, we want to make sure this is a complete history of Seneca, written by the residents of this community.”

The guild is proud it has generated enough funds during the presale to allow the first payment to the publisher, but more are needed.

“The businesses in our community and surrounding communities have been generous, but we are still wanting to include all businesses, big or small, in the book,” Maierhofer said. “Members are currently communicating with business and organization requesting further sponsorships.”

“We don’t want anybody – family or business – to be left out,” he added.

If you have not been contacted, contact the Guild with your story via email at senecahistory@gmail.com or call 815-252-1417.
