Dolores J. Tolbert

BRACEVILLE, Ill. – Dolores June (Perino) Tolbert died peacefully at Joliet Area Community Hospice, with her husband, Joseph, and son, Douglas, at her side Monday, Sept. 16, after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Dolores was a lifelong resident of Braceville, Ill. She was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Braceville to the late Charles and Cecilia (Jewett) Perino. Dolores graduated from Gardner High School in 1950, and worked at Grinchucks and the Joliet Arsenal as early jobs, later working as a bus driver, cafeteria helper and janitor at Braceville Elementary School.

She also worked with her husband Joe at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery for many years. She served as treasurer of the village of Braceville for over 30 years.

During her lifetime, Dolores enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, gardening, sewing, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Tolbert; a daughter, Sherry (Mauri) Wright of Fremont, Neb.; sons Charles (Linda) Basham of Morris, Ill., and Douglas (Lourdes) Tolbert of Marseilles, Ill.; grandchildren Jason (Shannon) McDonald, Nadia (Steve) Devitt, Timothy (Erika) Basham, Matthew (Laura) Basham, and Jesse Tolbert; great-grandchildren Emma Konken, Pixie Devitt, Aven Basham, Mara McDonald and baby Gavin Basham due in December; brothers Charles (Helen) Perino of Dwight, Ill., and Bob (Lois) Perino of Braceville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters Evelyn Decker, Josephine Jaimet and Jean McKee; and her best friend, Joyce Hill.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Joliet Area Community Hospice in memory of Dolores Tolbert.
