Morris soccer stays unbeaten with tie at Princeton

The Morris soccer team maintained its undefeated record on Monday when it forged a 3-3 tie with Princeton.

For the Redskins, Nick Borgstrom had a goal with an assist by Nestor Rodriguez in the first half while Ricardo Del Toro scored off an assist by Chava Villanueva in the second half. Borgstrom had the final goal of the game for Morris - that off an assist from Del Toro.

Morris is 10-0-4 on the season.

Newark 6, Serena 1

James Bowen had two goals and two assists for the Norsemen in the Little Ten Conference win. Matt Eike, Tom Bartkus, Nick Bartkus and Wallie Elizande had goals. Elizande also had an assist. Kevin Klock recorded 13 saves in goal.

GIRLS GOLF Sandwich win Interstate Eight Conference Tournament

Finishing with a team score of 406, the Sandwich Indians won the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament on Monday. Locally, Seneca was fourth with 521 points.

Coal City had one individual at the event. Alyssa Erickson was eighth overall with a round of 107 and Natalie Hamilton was 11th with a 110. Also scoring for the Lady Irish were Samantha DeGraaf (128), Heather Vroman (137) and Hannah Cisco (146).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL GSW def. Dwight, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20

Lexi Posing had eight kills, Bryanna DeMoraes seven kills, Breann Fisher six kills and Sam Schultz five kills in the non-conference win by the Panthers.

Emily Foley had 17 digs and 13 assists and Maranda Residori 12 assists.

GSW also won at the JV level 25-19, 25-18 behind six kills by Mariana Ferrari.

Newark def. Ottawa Marquette, 25-18, 25-19

Newark improved to 12-2 overall with the non-conference win against Ottawa Marquette.

Maddie Friestad had 12 points and two aces for the Lady Norse while Mel Kala had 11 digs, Kristina Nichols six kills, Caroline Erickson six points and two aces and Rachel Lape nine assists.

GRADE SCHOOL BASEBALL Coal City 13, Minooka 10

Trailing 9-2, the Warriors battled back to beat the Indians to gain a berth to the state tournament. With two outs in the sixth inning, Coal City got two-RBI hits from Kaleb Spreitzer and Austin Friddle to get within two and then plated six runs in the seventh inning to win the game. Friddle had a big three-run double in the seventh and Sean Micetich had a two-run single in the inning, as well.

Justin Dabulskis was the winning pitcher in relief of Blake Harseim and Micetich.
