Morris soccer absorbs first loss of the season

The Morris soccer team lost for the first time this season Tuesday, dropping a 4-0 decision at DeKalb.

“This was a the test for us to see how really good we are as a team,” Morris coach David Valdivia said. “The better team won and we got outplayed and out-hustled. This was our worst game and they pressured and made us chase the ball. We have a lot of work to do for the regional and the sectional.”

BOYS GOLF

Morris 163,

Plainfield East 181

The Redskins were led by a 40 each from Trevor Lines and Justin Larsen in the event held at the Links at Carillon.

At the JV level, Morris won 189-293 behind a 45 each from Andy Peters and Kendall Enger.

Streator 178,

Dwight 179

Streator won the nonconference outing at the Dwight Country Club.

For the Trojans, Ryan Folkers had a 43, Andy Froelich a 44, Nathan Zabel a 45 and Seth Galloway a 47.

GIRLS TENNIS

Morris 5,

DeKalb 0

Morris swept in the Northern Illinois Big 12 match to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in league action.

At No. 1 singles, Megan Davy won 6-3, 6-1 and at No. 2 singles, Emma Dingbaum won 7-5, 6-2. In doubles action, Leah Lines and Monica Davy won 6-1, 6-1; Savannah Carter and Carly Williamson won 6-1, 6-1 and Alyssa Larsen and Mary Bush won 6-1, 6-0.

In JV action, Morris won 4-1, taking all but the third doubles match. Winners included: Bridget Byrne (8-4); Pauli Stevens-Robinson (8-2); Autumn See and Hanna Burbulys (8-3) and Regan DeGrush and Rach Burbulys (8-3).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

GSW def. Donovan,

25-9, 25-8

Lexi Posing had five kills and Maranda Residori eight assists in the River Valley Conference win.

Sophie Barna had four digs.

Coal City def. Plano,

25-12, 25-21

Kassie Aldridge had 18 assists, six digs and two blocks for the Coalers in the win.

Nicole Borgetti also had five kills, five blocks and seven digs; Emily Halliday nine kills, four aces and 10 digs and Britta Spelde five kills and four aces.

Minooka def. Plainfield South,

25-12, 25-23

For the Indians, Skyler Day had eight kills, Ginger Perinar six kills, Brenna Perinar four kills and Jessica Karalow three kills in the Southwest Prairie Conference win.

Additionally, Natalie Yard had seven digs and two aces and Morgan Bauer and Kelly Clucas 10 assists each.

Newark def. Leland-Earlville,

25-17, 25-20

For the Lady Norse, Rachel Lape had 16 assists and seven kills, Kristina Nichols five kills and Alexa Myre six kills in the win.

Seneca def. Sandwich,

25-18, 25-18

Kayla Haines had seven kills, six points, 11 assists and five digs in the win by the Lady Irish.

Madison Wyss added seven points and seven assists.

Joe Webb had the lone TD for Morris in the win and Keagan Sobol stopped the key PAT conversion attempt for the Redskins.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MVK 35,

Elwood 17

Alyssa Hauch had 10 points and six rebounds in the win. Alex drives added nine points and six rebounds.

In the seventh grade game, MVK won 23-11. Alyssa Binion led the Mavericks with eight points while Rebekah Chapman added six points and six rebounds.

Reed-Custer 38,

MVK 33

Brittney Helms had 12 points and Hauch added nine points and 13 rebounds.

In the seventh grade game, MVK won 38-13 behind Madison Tondini’s 13 points. Kylie Winsor added nine points.

SIXTH GRADE

Ottawa Shepard 21,

Shabbona 4

Rori Griffin and Haley Aukland had two points each in the loss for Morris.

In extra-quarter action, Mary Chellino had two points and Ashlyn Williams one.
