The Morris Theatre Guild is now conducting rehearsals and taking reservations for its fall production of David Auburn’s “Proof.”
“Proof” replaces “Night Mother,” which was originally scheduled as the fall 2013 production.
“Proof” centers on Catherine, a troubled young woman who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, on the eve of Catherine’s 25th birthday, following her father’s death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind.
Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness – or genius – will she inherit?
The cast consists of both veteran and new guild members, including Gibby Kirby from Joliet, Tricia Thomas and Melanie Ruettiger, both of Morris, and Joseph Ennebach of Peru. The production is directed by Mathew Root of Morris and assisted by Michelle Vrtis of Ottawa.
“Proof” opens Nov. 8. The production continues Nov. 9, 10, 15, 16, and closes Nov. 17. All Friday and Saturday evening performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m. on both Sunday matinee performances.
Ticket prices for adults are $12 each if reserved by email, phone or purchased online, and $15 each if purchased at the door. For those age 13 and younger, or students with ID, the ticket price for email, phone or online reservations are $10 each. Otherwise, the adult price applies.
Also, groups of 10 or more people making a reservation by phone will receive a 10-percent discount off the total ticket price. All seating is based on first come, first served. There are no refunds. Reservations can be made by emailing email@example.com, calling the theater at 815-942-1966, or online at the guild’s new website at morristheatreguild.org.
