Indiana State Trooper arrested while visiting family in Morris
An Indiana State Trooper was arrested last week while visiting family in Morris.
Isaac Martinez, 32, was arrested about 6 p.m. Friday by Indiana State Police with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service on a Marion County, Ind., warrant for three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. He is accused of having relations with a 14-year-old girl in Indiana.
As of Tuesday afternoon he still was being held in the Grundy County Jail waiting to be taken back to Indiana. Martinez was in court Tuesday at the Grundy County Courthouse regarding his extradition, and bond was set at $100,000.
He would need to post 10 percent to be released. The case is scheduled for a status hearing Oct. 24.
Indiana police Cpt. Dave Bursten said Tuesday that Martinez’s alleged crimes did not occur in Grundy County.
In late August, Indiana police received an anonymous tip that Martinez had engaged in sexual acts with a juvenile, Bursten said.
“An investigation led to a warrant for his arrest,” he said. “We learned he was visiting family in your city and [Indiana] State Police, with the assistance of deputies from the U.S. Marshal’s Service, arrested him.”
The warrant was issued Oct. 11 and Indiana police wanted to apprehend him that same day, Bursten said.
“He is awaiting extradition and to my knowledge he will be in [Grundy County] Jail until later this week,” he said.
According to a news release from Indiana State Police, Martinez has been an Indiana State Police officer for more than five years and worked on road patrol duties. He previously was placed on administrative leave with pay Sept. 23 pending the investigation and since the charges have become felony charges, he has been placed on leave without pay.
The warrant for his arrest alleges Martinez committed two “B” felony violations of sexual misconduct with a minor and one “C” felony violation of sexual misconduct with a minor, according to the news release. The “B” felonies allege sex acts occurred between Martinez and the juvenile, and the “C” felony charge alleges touching of a sexual nature.
After the criminal case has concluded, Martinez may be subject to an internal investigation.
