A Gardner man has been taken from Kentucky to Grundy County to face charges of sexual abuse.

Sean P. Benaitis, 39, Gardner, was booked Wednesday into the Grundy County Jail on a Grundy warrant for three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The victim was a family member, according to authorities.

Benaitis was found in Kentucky and has been in custody there for a few weeks, Sheriff Kevin Callahan said. He was transported back Wednesday.

In January a report was made and through an investigation enough evidence was gathered to issue a warrant in February, he said.

Benaitis’ bond is set at $50,000 with 10 percent to apply.

He was in court Thursday where public defender JD Flood was appointed to represent him, according to judici.com.

Benaitis is scheduled to be back in court Thursday.
