E. Charles ‘Chuck’ Davy

E. Charles “Chuck” Davy, 91, of Morris, Ill., formerly of Plainfield, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his residence.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Bonnie J. Davy (nee Kuntz); his daughter, Janet (Stephen) Eggenberger of Somers, Iowa; three stepsons, Charles A. (Ruth) Hammerstein of Indiana, Robert W. Hammerstein of Morris and Michael P. (Susan) Hammerstein of Channahon, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Janet L. (Phillip) Harvey of Minooka and Cathy J. (Allan) Davis of Texas; 15 grandchildren, Joshua, Russell and David Eggenberger, Charles, Adrienne, Casey, Nicky, Robert, Michael Jr. and Cory Hammerstein, Rhonda, Robert and Tammy Harvey, and Allan and Kristin Davis; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma I. Davy, in 1989; his parents, Ernest and Amanda Davy; a son, Duane A. Davy, in 2007; a granddaughter, Elise Hammerstein; and a sister, Esther Brosmer.

Chuck was born in Braceville, Ill., on Dec. 8, 1921. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Chuck retired in 1981 as an engineer with 40 years of service with Illinois Bell. He was a life member of the AT&T Pioneers, and a member of Minooka United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Plainfield Historical Society for many years, and a member of the Plainfield American Legion Marne Post 13.

He will be lying in state from 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, until the 11 a.m. service at Minooka United Methodist Church, 205 Church St., Minooka. The Rev. Mary Zajac will officiate. Interment will be at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery. Memorials to Minooka United Methodist Church will be appreciated. The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Joliet.
