MORRIS – An informational meeting is planned for today at 7 p.m. to discuss the idea of a 1 percent sales tax increase in Grundy County.
The proposal is in the early stages of discussion and the school districts in the county are working locally to determine if there is enough need to pose the question of a tax increase to local voters, according to a news release from event organizers.
The County School Facility Tax Information meeting will be at the Grundy County Administration Building, 1200 Union St., Morris. The event is co-hosted by the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce and the Grundy Economic Development Council.
Experts will discuss the local impact and attendees may ask questions and get feedback. State law allows county voters to approve a sales tax to fund school facility costs, with a maximum allowable tax of 1 percent.
School districts may use sales tax revenue for capital projects. The meeting is open to all business owners and managers as well as county residents.
