MORRIS – The nonprofit Morris Theatre Guild is holding open auditions this month for its Christmas production of “Candy Cane Chaos,” written and directed by guild board member Michelle Vrtis.
Auditions will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29 at the Morris Theatre Guild, 516 W. Illinois Ave. Auditions include cold readings, so no special preparations are necessary, according to a news release from the theater. You do not need to be a member of the Morris Theatre Guild to audition.
There is a need for eight actors (two boys and five girls) for speaking roles, along with extras to sing in the chorus. All auditionees must be able to read and can be no older than the 12th grade. Also needed is one female older than age 18 for the role of Mrs. Claus.
“Candy Cane Chaos” is an audience-participation production that takes place at the North Pole during the weeks leading up to Christmas, according to the news release. Santa Claus is missing and Mrs. Claus is desperately trying to get toy-making, candy-making and cookie-baking finished while the elves make mistakes and bungle their way through Christmas Chaos.
“Candy Cane Chaos” opens with two performances at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Other scheduled performances include 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8; 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14; and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15.
The production will be assisted by Jeff and Jeanette Harris, both of Morris. For information on auditions, group sales, house buy-outs, or other information, call Vrtis at 815-228-2832 or visit www.morristheatreguild.org.
