LyondellBasell employees fill We Care’s pantry
MORRIS – On Friday, LyondellBasell helped We Care purchase more than 4,882 pounds of food from Northern Illinois Food Bank and provided volunteers to unload the truck and stock the shelves.
“We Care does an outstanding job in the Grundy County community,” Brent Connett, LyondellBasell public relations manager, said in a news release from We Care. “Their commitment to leading the fight against hunger is impressive and we are proud to support their organization.”
We Care receives a monthly delivery of food for its pantry from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The NIFB is able to provide food to food pantries at prices that are unattainable in grocery stores, according to the news release. Items such as 12 packet boxes of instant oatmeal for 24 cents per box, 5.34 ounce boxes of granola bars for 2 cents each and 2 pound cans of pumpkin pie filling for 12 cents each.
In addition to the food We Care purchases with the donations, the food pantry also receives food provided for free as part of the Emergency Food Program. The EFP provided cranberry juice, grapefruit juice, spaghetti sauce and whole chickens. During the month since the last Fill the Pantry, We Care has helped feed 298 families from its food pantry.
