Gloria was born Sept. 28, 1944, in Chicago to Jack and Margaret Holmen. She worked at Western Union where she met her husband George. They were married Nov. 7, 1964, in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 2004.

Gloria was a member of St. Mary of Gostyn Church in Downers Grove where she taught CCD for two years. She had great faith in God, and loved spending time with her family and friends, and loved attending her grandchildren’s many events.

She is survived by two children, her daughter Diane and son David (Kim); 10 grandchildren, Michelle (fiance Jon Needham), Michael Hicks, Rachel (Drew) Campbell, Jessica, Erica, Allison, and Andrew Gordon, Jade, Indiana and Maya Kryzak; one great-grandson, Caleb Needham; one sister, Donna (Brent) Bassett; one brother, Ronald (Chris) Holmen; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and numerous close friends who sat vigilantly by her bedside.

Besides her husband George, she was preceded in death by and her parents, Jack and Margaret Holmen.

Gloria loved Immaculate Conception School where four of her grandchildren attended school. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the Jim Feeney fund at Immaculate Conception School, 505 E. North St., Morris, IL 60450, in her name would be greatly appreciated to aid in the future education of children.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at the Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main St., Downers Grove. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Downers Grove at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris.
