David Welter, Teryl Lundeen and Deb Warning, local Grundy County Board members, are graduates of the University of Illinois, Institute of Government and Public Affairs, 2013 Leadership Academy program for local government officials.

The Leadership Academy, a joint venture of United Counties Council of Illinois and the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois (IGPA), is a comprehensive leadership development program designed for county officials, elected and appointed, according to a news release from the Institute.

The central focus of this program of study is on critical thinking, problem-solving, communications, planning, self-assessment and change.

Graduation ceremonies and recognition of the 2013 Leadership Academy graduating class took place October at a reception and banquet at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield.

This is the eighth year for such an event at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and plans are in place to recognize the next class of graduating local officials in October 2014.
