Girls' Night Out adding charity to raise funds

MORRIS – The Morris Downtown retail committee held its ninth annual Girls’ Night Out event this past May.

A new addition to this year’s event was adding a charity to raise funds, according to a news release from the organization. The committee chose Loving Deeds For Kids in Need, a charity of First Presbyterian Church of Morris that assists schoolchildren in Grundy County.

Money was collected by retail members the month leading up to the event as well as collecting money during a 50/50 collection the night of the event. Girls’ Night Out Chairwoman Jane Kerr, co-owner of Apple Butter and Shugies, presented a check for $358 to chairwoman Penny Rund.

Donations collected by Denise Pankey will be given to The Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commission. Mark Stevens represented The Grundy Veterans Assistance Commission and handed out fliers.

The Downtown Retail Association will be collecting donations at their stores throughout the holiday season. Donors will be asked to sign their name to a paper snowflake, which will be displayed in that store. All donations collected will be split between We Care of Grundy Co. and PADS.
