The American Red Cross invites those who want to wish a happy holidays to those who serve our country, vets and their families through social media and traditional mail through Dec. 6.

Using the hashtag #HolidayMail on their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine accounts people can be creative and tag instant messages, e-cards, photos or videos to military members. The Red Cross will post the material on its social media sites throughout the holiday season, according to a news release from the organization.

People also can send traditional cards through the mail addressed to:

To ensure cards are delivered in time for the holidays, they must be postmarked no later than Dec. 6. People are asked to refrain from sending letters, monetary donations or other inserts, or glitter with the cards.

Information and card requirements can be found redcross.org/holidaymail. Red Cross volunteers sort and deliver the cards throughout the holiday season.

The Red Cross has received and distributed more than 6.5 million cards for members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their families since the program began in 2006.
