Margaret ‘Peg’ Phelan

Margaret “Peg” Phelan (nee Leake), 75, of Ransom, Ill., passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, Ill., with her family by her side.

She was born Oct. 19, 1938, in Morris, Ill., to John and Isabel (nee Lundsford) Leake and was raised in Verona. She retired from the Illinois Department of Public Aid as a nursing home inspector. She was formerly employed at the Dwight Correctional Center as a registered nurse and formerly was a nurse at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Ill.

She was a devoted religious woman and an active member of the Watch Program. She was very active in the LaSalle County 4-H Club where she was a group leader for many years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and her greatest love in life was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She was the beloved wife of Paul Phelan of Ransom; loving mother of John (Kathy) of Seneca, Ill., Matt (fiancee Becki) and her daughters, Brittani and Raquelle of Ransom; proud grandmother of Elizabeth (James) Depew of Shelbyville, Ill., Katharine (Steve) Kinzler of Morris and Andrew Kruger of Waxahachie, Texas; and beloved great-grandmother of Jeremiah Depew and Zak Kinzler. Also surviving are three brothers-in-law, Edward J. (Barbara) Phelan of Joliet, Luke (Judy) Phelan of Maumee, Ohio, and Leo J. Phelan of Joliet; one stepsister, Anne (James) McGowan of Bloomington; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mark J. Phelan, on Aug. 20, 2013; and her daughter, Mary Kruger, on July 8, 2006.

Funeral Services for Margaret Phelan will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Sacred Heart Church, 219 Emmett St., Kinsman, IL 60437, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Hornicak officiating.

Interment to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Ransom. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fed C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 at Deerpath Drive, Morris. For information call 815-942-5040 or visit www.fredcdames.com.
