Night in Bethlehem event set for Dec. 1

The First Presbyterian Church in Morris is again holding "A Night in Bethlehem," a free event from 4 to 6:30 p.. Dec. 1. It is a family event in which families come and view the live Nativity.

MORRIS – A Night in Bethlehem, sponsored by the Outreach/Fellowship Commission of the First Presbyterian Church in Morris, will be from 4 to 6:30 pm. Dec. 1.

A Night in Bethlehem is a free event. All are welcome to attend and become part of the Christmas story by feeling, tasting, hearing and smelling what life was like at the time of Jesus’s birth.

Families will enter near the outdoor stable, a living Nativity complete with Mary, Joseph, Jesus, the Wise Men and shepherds.

Live animals, from Dr. Tobi Staudacher, a veterinarian from Yorkville, also will be there and can be pet by visitors.

After viewing the outdoor Nativity scene, guests proceed indoors to the church to be counted in the census, then can enter a marketplace to explore what life was like during this time.

Some of the shops include wreath making, basket weaving, jewelry making, musical instrument making, leather working, a family photo shop and a story time. Three artisans also will demonstrate their crafts.

The Jewish Family Home is where everyone sample treats that were prepared back in Biblical times, but be alert for the Roman soldiers and tax collectors as you stroll through the village.

The evening will be set up in a station format in which visitors will rotate to various stations, including some in which children and families will actually create some objects from Biblical times.

Family photos can be taken and sent following the event. Adults must be present and remain with their children during the event. Space is be limited, so preregistration is recommended by calling 815-942-1871 or visiting www.firstpresmorris.org and clicking on the “Night in Bethlehem” event.

Families also can register at the door Dec. 1 beginning at 4 p.m.
