Coal City, Seneca girls hoops get conference wins

In area girls basketball action on Monday, Coal City defeated Manteno in Interstate Eight conference play. Seneca defeated Dwight in River Valley conference play. Beecher defeated Gardner-South Wilmington.

Coal City 51,

Manteno 23

Nicole Borgetti and Emily Halliday each had 12 points in the Interstate Eight conference win while Brittany Jezik added 11 points and Carly Pavlis had eight points in the win.

In the sophomore game, Coal City defeated Manteno 20-18 with Makenna Emerson hitting the game-winning basket with five seconds left in the game.

Taylor Meents ended up with a team-high nine points in the contest.

Beecher 49,

GSW 34

Taylor Speed had eight points, Lexi Posing had six points and Breanna Fisher had nine rebounds in the loss.

“We struggled to get anything going offensively,” GSW coach Adam Leigh said. “I think the girls hustled and worked hard all game we just couldn’t make very many shots.”

Seneca 67,

Dwight 36

For Dwight, Alyson Wiemken had 17 points and five rebounds, and Hannah Trainor added seven points and four rebounds in the loss.

Rochelle 56,

Morris 49

Ricky Delfavero had 15 points and seven rebounds and Michael Feeney 11 points in the loss.

In the ‘B’ game, Rochelle won, 37-25.

Kaylee Steichen had nine points and Mady Asbridge had six points.

In a seventh grade regional game at Ottawa Wallace, GSW lost to Dwight 17-14 despite seven points by Katelyn Kavanaugh.

In the eighth-grade game, Nathan Wantland had 11 points, and Aurelius Lennon-Rios had nine points for the Braves.

MVK 40,

Seneca 19

Jalyn Campbell and Cody Altman had four points apiece in the loss.

In the seventh-grade game, Max Bedeker had eight points for the Raiders in a 36-21 loss.

Seneca 39,

MVK 22

Brendan Newkirk and Erik Bendt had nine point apiece in the win.

In the seventh grade win Nate Armbrust had eight points and Own Barnett had five points in a 44-22 loss to MVK.
