Ron Severson’s first hearing regarding the objections to his petition to run in the March primary election for state representative of the 75th District was Tuesday.
The hearing was just to assign future dates for document examination, Severson said.
The next hearing is scheduled for Monday in Springfield.
A Morris resident and chairman of the Grundy County Board, Severson filed his petition Nov. 27 to run in the Republican primary for state representative.
He is challenging John Anthony of Plainfield who was appointed in August to replace Republican Pam Roth after she resigned to move to Texas with her family.
Severson’s petition is being objected to by two people: Keith Becker of Millington and Charles Walton of Plano. The website does not list their political affiliations, but Becker, whose listed number is disconnected, circulated nomination petitions for Anthony.
Anthony has said previously he has nothing to do with the objection against Severson.
Chicago attorney John Fogarty said Tuesday he was representing the two objectors against Severson, as well as other candidate objections. According to the biography on his firm’s website, he is general counsel to the Illinois Republican Party.
Severson said the objectors were not present at his hearing, just Fogarty.
