Flash mob rescheduled for Dec. 29
MORRIS – The flash mob planned for Sunday in downtown Morris has been rescheduled to Dec. 29 because of weather.
The Morris City Council approved closing Washington Street between Liberty and Wauponsee streets from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday to accommodate Brian Nolan’s request to film a flash mob sequence. The closures will now be for the same time Dec. 29.
Nolan and Pat Rooney of Morris are coordinating the flash mob to film it for a “Morris Christmas” type video. The video equipment is sensitive to cold and with Sunday’s forecasted weather, it was safer to change the date by a week, Nolan said.
A flash mob is when a group of people suddenly perform an act together in a public place for a brief time, usually capturing the attention of the people around them. In this case, the crowd will break out in dance.
In addition to the dancers, Nolan previously has said he hopes to involve local families to send messages to their loved ones overseas. The video will have different segments, one downtown and another with dancers in the courtyard of the CanalPort Plaza.
At the end of the video, a segment will be added where local families will be recorded with special messages to their loved ones actively serving our country. The families will then get a copy to send to their family members overseas as a surprise.
Local families willing to participate in the messages and anyone willing to dance in the flash mob can call Nolan at 815-941-2902.
