Local students honored at Augustana College
ROCK ISLAND – Augustana College announced 839 students were named to the Dean’s List for the 2013 fall term.
From the Grundy County area, students who have earned this honor include:
• Amanda Holmes from Dwight, a freshman majoring in undecided.
• Sylvia Salinas from Morris, a freshman majoring in undecided.
• Chaney Tambling from Dwight, a senior majoring in biology and Spanish for professional use.
Augustana College’s Handel Oratorio Society presented its new take on a Quad-Cities Christmas tradition, “A Christmas Messiah,” on Dec. 14 and 15.
Bryanna Niswonger from Seneca took part in the event.
The Handel Oratorio Society began performing choral and orchestral works in 1881, after Olaf Olsson, Augustana professor of theology who later served as president, visited London and saw a performance of Handel’s Messiah. Since then, the society has performed Handel’s masterwork more than 200 times.
Founded in 1860, Augustana College is a four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences. The college enrolls 2,500 students and is located along the Mississippi River.
