Prep roundup: Morris wrestling places 4th at holiday tournament

The Morris wrestling team had two champions and placed fourth overall at the Metamora Holiday Tournament Saturday.

“This is a great tournament for us to preview our sectional teams from the Peoria area, and Metamora runs a great tournament,” Morris coach Jon Lanning said.

Kenny Baldridge of Morris defeated Casey McWhirter of East Peoria 5-1 in the 132-pound finals. Trevor Allbert was a winner in the 160-pound finals over Tony Hall of East Peoria.

Andrew Smith finished second at 113 pounds for Morris. Dalton Ness was third at 122 pounds and Tony Menozi was fourth at 106 pounds. A.J. Vota and Emmet Chouinard both took fifth place and Andrew Faught was sixth.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Coal City 54,

Chicago Christian 43

At the Lisle Holiday Cage Classic Thursday, Nicole Borgetti and Emily Halliday scored 18 points each for the Lady Coalers (12-0). Britta Spelde had 8 points to go with 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists.

Fieldcrest 52,

Seneca 38

At the St. Bede Lady Bruins Christmas Classic Thursday, Anna Baker had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Danielle Hauch and Erin Hovious had 7 points each to lead Seneca (11-3).

“We were not able to stop Fieldcrest in transition tonight and that was the difference in the ballgame,” Seneca coach Barb Beck said.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Reed-Custer 91,

Midland 65

At the Marseilles Holiday Tournament Thursday, Tyler Foote scored 23 points and Mason Dransfeldt had 20 points for the Comets.

“We played with a lot of energy this morning, but we are still having problems with being a little too aggressive at times,” Reed-Custer coach Mark Porter said.
