Patterson shoots lights out at Redbird Arena

Morris junior guard Austin Patterson advanced to the finals of the Class 3A Three-Point Showdown after his performance at state on Thursday night. This after coming out on top in the fourth group in the event held at Redbird Arena in Normal.

On Friday afternoon in the finals, however, only one person could advance to the King of the Hill competition on Saturday and Quinton Moore of Rich East was named king of Class 3A. The King of the Hill competition is held at state and is held amongst those who won each of the fourth classes.

Moore made 11 3-pointers in the finals. That was one better than both Justin Shadowens of Marion and David Perkins of East Peoria. Zach Rehmert of Sterling made nine and Patterson seven. In the finals Patterson’s shots went 0-3-4.

In the semifinals, Patterson was on the brink of elimination after missing his first five shots. However, he did bounce back strong from the slow start by making five in each of the next two racks. His score of 10 put him in a six-way tie.

In the tiebreaker, which has the players shooting one rack from each corner, Patterson hit 7 of 10 to advance.
