Morris girls basketball defeats Streator

Morris defeated Streator, 58-37, in area girls basketball Monday night.

Julie Jurasits led the Redskins with 19 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Jessica Ponce added 13 points and five rebounds.

Coal City 49,

Lisle 39

Emily Halliday had 20 points and seven rebounds in the Interstate Eight Conference win by the Lady Coalers, who is now 23-0 on the season.

“Another hard-earned victory,” Coal City coach Brad Schmitt said. “We struggled in the first half, but we made some adjustments in the second half and played the way we are capable of. We withstood their best shot tonight and I’m really proud of how the kids responded.”

In the sophomore game, Coal City defeated Lisle, 35-32, with Makenna Emerson leading the way with 16 points and three assists. Kenady Clayburn had seven points and eight rebounds.

Seneca 44,

Westmont 29

The Lady Irish led, 18-11 at halftime but then picked it up to defeat the Sentinels and record the Interstate Eight Conference win.

“After a slow start, our third quarter was tremendous,” Seneca coach Barb Beck said. “We had a lot of ladies contribute in the victory.”

Anna Baker and Mallory Misener led the Irish with 11 points each while Jacey Lamboley added seven points and seven rebounds.

Rylee Anderson contributed five points, three steals and three assists.

In the sophomore game, Seneca won, 51-27, with Paige Hacker leading the charge offensively with 12 points.

Newark 63,

IMSA 7

Kristine Zitt had 16 points to lead Newark while Nicole Lawrence added 10 and Jasmine Mitchell had eight.

“The girls really came out and took care of business,” Newark coach Brian Holman said.

Dwight 36,

Wilmington 30

Alyson Wiemken had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Trojans on senior night. Rachel Dawson added nine points and 11 rebounds.

Saratoga 30,

Kelvin Grove 28

Brennan Goff had 16 points and Tyler Spiezio had 11 in the regional win at the Richland Regional. 

Burr Ridge 44,

For the Braves, Nathan Wantland had 11 points and Aurelios Lennon Rios added eight in the loss. Collin Kingsbury had six points.

GSW 43,

Lockport Taft 28

The Tigers were led in scoring by Walker Eutsey with 13 points while Kal Kociss added 11 points and Calvin Croy had nine in a regional quarterfinal contest.

In seventh grade action, GSW lost the Laraway Regional to Laraway, 46-21, despite 13 points by Joey Morales. In other action, GSW beat Taft, 40-13, with Matthew Wepprecht scoring 16 points and Morales scoring 15. GSW also beat Fairmont, 43-13, with Morales scoring 15 points and Wepprecht recording 14.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Coal City def. Seneca 26-24, 26-24

Coal City was led by Ana Pullara’s 10 points (two aces) and four digs while Bridget Kauzlaric added six points and seven assists for the Warriors. Hannah Best had five assists and four digs.

Dwight def. MVK,

24-26, 25-2, 25-19

For MVK Alexa Novy had 12 service points and Sydney Poyner nine points in the loss. Alex drives had five kills and Britney Helms six digs.

In the seventh grade match, MVK won, 25-15, 25-14, behind 14 points from Lauren Dooley. Rebekah Chapman had 10 points and Samantha Macchietto had four kills.
