Prep roundup: Newark girls basketball defeats GSW

In area girls basketball action Tuesday, Newark defeated GSW by a 62-14 score and Coal City’s girls stayed unbeaten by defeating Clifton Central, 39-24, in a nonconference game.

Coal City 39,

Ciifton Central 24

Emily Halliday had 13 points and Britta Spelde seven points and 10 rebounds in the nonconference win.

Minooka 35,

Oswego East 34

Erin Heide had 19 points, including four 3-pointers in the Southwest Prairie Conference win.

Kelly Carnagio and Brookyn Bachmann had seven points each.

Newark 62,

GSW 14

Kristine Zitt and Jasmine Mitchell had 10 points each in the nonconference win by Newark. Nicole Lawrence and Jess Hager had nine and eight points, respectively.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Seneca 74,

Marquette 30

Seneca improved to 17-4 win the win.

Alex Bott led the Irish with 15 points while Conlan Callahan added 12. Additionally, Brad Wyss had 11 points and Carter Gallick had 10.

Coal City 64,

Beecher 52

Coal City improved to 14-5 with the win. Nick Peters led the Coalers with 20 points while Lane Cowherd added 17 markers. Peters also added 18 rebounds.

Reed-Custer 53

Neil O’Donnell led the Comets with 25 points.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Seneca def. MVK,

25-17, 25-19

For the Lady Mavericks, Alexa Novy had nine service points and Sara Cahill five with three aces, Alex Draves had three kills and Britney Helms had three digs and two kills.

In the seventh-grade contest, MVK lost, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, with Lauren Dooley getting 14 points (nine aces), Alyssa Binion had nine points (six aces) and Kylie Winsor had six aces.
