MCHS senior named rotary club Student of the Month for January

Minooka Community High School senior Matthew Garcia-Thompson, was named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club’s January “Student of the Month”.

MINOOKA – Congratulations are extended to Minooka Community High School senior Matthew Garcia-Thompson for being named the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club’s January Student of the Month.

In the classroom, Garcia-Thompson maintains a 3.9 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Outside the classroom, he is a member of Minooka High School’s varsity golf and track and field teams, as well as the school’s chapter of National Honor Society and Students Taking A New Direction, according to a news release from the school. Garcia-Thompson has been named an Illinois State Scholar.

After graduation, Garcia-Thompson plans to attend the University of North Texas, where he will major in mechanical engineering. 

After college, he aspires to intern for the BNSF Railway Company and have that internship evolve into a career there.
