MCHS headed to San Antonio trip
Morris Choral Program hosts trivia night for fundraising
MORRIS – Retired music teacher Barb Boma will be the “trivia master” at this year’s Trivia Night fundraiser for the Morris Community High School Choir.
The MCHS Choral Program students will be taking a choir trip in 2015 to San Antonio Texas, said Alyssa Napolitiano, director of choirs.
“I enjoy doing it,” Boma said. “It broadens their musical horizons.”
The Trivia Night will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the MCHS Main Gym. The cost is $10 a person or $60 for a team of six. Adults and students ages 14 and up are welcome to sign up for a team.
On their way to Texas, the choir students will stop at the University of Illinois to participate in some clinics before finding their way to San Antonio where they will be participating in clinics at the University of Texas and performing at area attractions.
“The students will have performance opportunities at Sea World San Antonio and at the Alamo,” Napolitiano said.
Boma said student trips are a reward in themselves, but it’s also a chance for them to show off what they’ve done in their lifetime and experience new things, new people, and new places.
“We never had anything like that when I was in high school,” Boma said. “Anytime you have a chance to do something like that, I recommend it.”
With the trip comes cost though, and the cost could prohibit some members from attending.
Trivia Night will be the first fundraiser for this trip in an attempt to cut the student’s costs as low as possible to help everyone attend.
“Not everyone has a chance to go,” Boma said. “That’s why we do the fundraiser.”
The Trivia Night will consist of 10 rounds, with 10 questions each, on different categories.
Boma who considers herself a wealth of useless knowledge, will create the categories as well as the questions.
“The winning team last year scored an 85 or 86 out of 100,” Boma said. “It’s not extremely difficult but it’s not easy.”
Team registration forms can be found in the high school’s main office or by visiting the Morris high school website, morrishs.org. Concessions will be available at the event.
