Locals graduate military training
Two local airmen graduated from basic military training recently. Air Force Airman Dakotah J. Smith, who graduated from Reed-Custer High School, and Brandon T. Daniels, who graduated Minooka Community High School, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.
The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Smith is the son of Denise and Clifford Smith of Custer Park. Daniels is the son of Joella and Mark Daniels of Channahon.
Navy Seaman Apprentice Stacy L. Dewitt, daughter of Robert D. and Samantha J. Dewitt of Gardner, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes.
During the eight-week program, Dewitt completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.
The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” are designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills.
