Letter to the editor: Caring community

To the Editor:

I would like to spread some good news, instead of all the bad news we hear way too often.

First of all I am proud to be raised in Morris, Illinois. This past year I have done several fundraising projects in Morris to help with the purchase and training of a certified service dog for my two grandsons, who have severe life-threatening peanut and almond allergies. This service dog will be able to sniff or detect the scent of peanuts/peanut oil and almonds/almond oil. This Allergy Alert Service Dog, from Angel Service Dogs, will give my grandsons a much safer life.

I would like to thank the great people of Morris and surrounding communities, who so graciously supported my fundraising efforts and my family. The money has been raised to obtain the service dog, and now we will be able to pick the dog up in May and bring her home after a 10-day training. Thank you so much for coming together as a community.
