Coal City Fire District fought a shed fire Monday afternoon at 1605 N. Rollin Lane in Coal City.

COAL CITY – A fire destroyed a shed at 1605 N. Rollin Lane in Coal City, but caused no injuries Monday afternoon.

The Coal City Fire Department responded to the fire at about 1 p.m. Monday and requested mutual aid from surrounding agencies.

The firefighters were on the scene for about one hour, said Nick Doerfler, public information officer for the fire department.

The fire caused about $4,200 in damage to the shed and its contents, he said. The owner of the shed had been burning leaves on Sunday and some of the embers blew into a ditch, which caught on fire Monday and spread to the shed.

“We encourage residents to be careful with open flames,” Doerfler said.

The shed was not located near any surrounding structures.
