Roundup: Foley leads GSW softball past Illinois Lutheran
SOUTH WILMINGTON – The Gardner-South Wilmington softball team ran its record to 11-4 on Thursday with a 13-2 rout of River Valley Conference rival, Illinois Lutheran.
Winning pitcher Emily Foley struck out eight and allowed five hits, while helping her own cause by going 3 for 3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. Joining in the 14-hit attack for the Panthers (11-4, 5-2) were Lexi Posing (3 for 3, triple, RBI), Kylie King (2 for 3, home run, 2 RBIs), Maranda Residori (2 for 3, double, triple, 2 RBIs) and Emily Hopwood (double, 3 RBIs).
Coal City 5, Seneca 4: Brad Littleton had three hits and an RBI for Coal City (10-9, 5-3) on Monday. Lane Cowherd had two hits and scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild pitch. Littleton allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out eight in six innings. Zack Mellen allowed no runs or hits in the final two innings.
Minooka 89, Oswego 79, Plainfield Central 18: Janile Rogers won a pair of individual events and was on a winning relay to lead the Indians. Rogers won the 200 (26.0) and the triple jump (33-0) and was a member of the winning 4x100 relay, along with Amber Jackson, Bethany Bachmann and Latricia Dean. Other individual winners for Minooka were Mackenzie Callahan in the 3,200 (11:47.3), Ashley Tutt in the 800 (2:24.5), Moira McAsey in the 1,600 (5:30.0), Alexis Pease in the discus (99-6), Taylor Prieboy in the long jump (15-53⁄4) and Jasmine Gragg in the high jump (5-0). Relay winners were the 4x800 team of Haley McNamara, Keely Doran, Morgan Crouch and Gaby Gall (10:24.0), the 4x200 team of Amber Jackson, Dean, Kayla Finch and Prieboy (1:51.3) and the 4x400 team of McAsey, Tutt, McNamara and Crouch (4:19.9).
