Morris church to honor musical performers and director

MORRIS – This Saturday and Sunday the First Presbyterian Church of Morris will be honoring its long-time musical performers and director. 

At the 5:30 p.m. service Saturday, they are recognizing Pam and Scott Breuning, who have played in the Church Praise Band for 18 years. Pam is a retired orchestra director and plays bass in the Joliet Orchestra. Scott is a retired guidance counselor. They both also play in a rock band.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, they will be recognizing Kim Struck, Jill Kopczick and Fred Kieslar for their long service to the church.

Struck has been the director of music for 21 years. She taught at Immaculate Conception School for 22 years and has been directing the choirs at Saratoga School for the last 5 years.

Kopczick has played piano at the church for 41 years. She teaches piano.

Kieslar is retired from school administration. He has been the organist for 19 years and is an active choir member.

There will be special music during the services and receptions after the services. The public is welcome to attend.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church to hold luncheon

MORRIS – Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris is hosting a mother-daughter luncheon and style show at 1 p.m., Saturday.

Honor your mother, grandmother, family member or friend by bringing them to this special event.

Tickets may be purchased by contacting the church at 815-942-1145. Tickets will not be available at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Church of Hope to host Rock-A-Thon

GARDNER – The Church of Hope's Annual Rock-A-Thon will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Gardner Gazebo in downtown Gardner.

This event will help raise funds for programs at the church such as Sunday School for adults and children, Youth Group, bible studies and Vacation Bible School (which will be held 5 to 8 p.m. June 23 to June 27).

Anyone interested in rocking or sponsoring a rocker can call the Church of Hope at 815-237-8312 or Ida at 815-237-2287.

This fun event will correspond with Rt. 66 Red Corridor weekend. 

First Apostolic Church presentation

MORRIS – The public is invited to join the First Apostolic Church of Morris to hear cardiologist Dr. Daniele DeGirolami's powerful testimony of God's changes in his life and his spiritual awakening.

DeGirolami has been named on the "US News & World Report Top Docs List." He has also been recognized as being among some of the nations "Top Doctors for Women," as listed in "Chicago" magazine.

The doctor will present at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, 118 E. Jefferson St. in Morris. For information call 815-448-2038.

Coal City church to host spring luncheon

COAL CITY – The "Marthas" from Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City are hosting their annual Spring Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Berst Center.

Following the luncheon, Bunco and Euchre will be played with prizes to be awarded. Luncheon tickets are $8 per person and $5 for Bunco and Euchre.

Tickets will be sold at the door the day of the luncheon. Carry outs will be available.

First Baptist Church of Morris Spaghetti Dinner

MORRIS – A Spaghetti Supper will be held May 10 as a fundraiser for the Youth Mission Trip for the First Baptist Church of Morris.

From 5 to 7 p.m., May 10 the supper will be held at the church, 1650 W. Route 6, Morris. For information, call 815-942-0812. All are welcome and donations are accepted.

Mazon United Methodist 5K

MAZON – The 4th Annual Mazon United Methodist 5K will be held on June 7. Race day registration will start at 7:30 a.m. until the pavilion in Mazon City Park on Center Street, and the race will start at 9 a.m. on Seneca Street, following certified course IL-12095-JW. 

Pre-registration is available online at www.active.com.  For a written registration form, e-mail our race director, Karen Fabian, at mazonmethodist@aol.com or call/text 815-483-9343. 

T-shirts and goody bags will be given to all pre-registered entrants, and to race day entrants until we run out. A total of 72 age group medals will be awarded, as well as trophies to the top three male and female finishers. This year we will also award a trophy to the youngest and oldest finishers! All profits support our outreach ministries in the local community.
