Nettle Creek school board looks at new architecture firm
MORRIS – The Nettle Creek School Board listened to presentations this week from three architecture firms before choosing one for the school.
“The board wanted to look at other options,” Superintendent Don McKinney said Thursday. “After the presentations the board voted to hire Tria Architecture, pending successful contract negotiations.”
Jim Petrakos with Tria Architecture of Burr Ridge said Morris and Nettle Creek are a good fit for their firm.
“We’re a smaller firm who are doing more work in Will and Grundy counties,” he said Thursday. “Being a service-oriented firm means we can help out the smaller districts.”
Every district has to have an architect on record. The Nettle Creek board decided to hear from Tria Architecture, BLDD Architects, and Legat Architects before choosing one that could help them work on upcoming life safety work and assist district officials in developing a plan for long-term facilities maintenance.
“The biggest project in the near future is our life safety work,” McKinney said. “We’ve not had a long-term maintenance plan for our facilities, so they will also help us with that.”
He said the district also will be looking at a major roofing project in the next couple of years.
STR Partners architectural firm has been the school’s firm for the past year and a half.
The board also reappointed Karolyn Entwistle as recording secretary for the 2014-15 school year, and Zukowski Law Offices as the school attorney for the 2014-15 school year; these items are voted on annually.
