Grundy County Democrats select two to fill vacant ballot positions
MORRIS – The Grundy County Democrats have filled a vacancy on the ballot for two Grundy County Board districts.
District 2’s vacancy has been filled with the nomination of Laura Prosise Hrechko, of Minooka, and for District 3 with Mike Onorato, of Diamond. The two newcomers will be on the ballot in the November general election.
The two vacant positions on the ballot were not filled for the Democrats in the primary election, so to fill them for the general election each candidate had to obtain signatures and go through a similar process as the primary election, but by June 2.
Prosise Hrechko will run along side Democrats Michael Clemmons and Dave Udstuen against three Republicans, incumbent Debra Warning, Kerri Courtright and David Nelson.
In District 3, Onorato will run with Democrat incumbents Richard Joyce and Jim Ryan, and face two Republicans, incumbent Douglas Boresi and Clark Barkley in November.
There are three seats up for election in November in each district.
Prosise Hrechko has lived in Minooka since she was 10 years old and is raising her two sons with her husband, Chad Hrechko. She is a cosmetologist in Minooka and an independent consultant for a direct sales company.
She said she believes in common sense decision making and does not care for partisan politics.
“Residents of Grundy County want lower taxes, a safe place to live, more local jobs and a better educational opportunity for our children and the current dysfunctional County Board is not acting in the best interests of this great county.” she said in the release. “I believe that a change of leadership on the County Board is needed to move this county forward and I can provide that leadership.”
Mike Onorato, 56, is a broker-owner of Onorato Real Estate in Coal City. A native and lifelong resident of the Coal City area, Onorato joined the family firm of Onorato Real Estate and Onorato Insurance Services in 1982 and has been a resident of Diamond for 15 years.
“I am proud to announce that I am a candidate for the Grundy County Board in District 3,” Onorato said in the release. “I have watched with dismay and concern over the last few years the attitudes on the Grundy County Board and I believe that there needs to be serious changes to this board in order to refocus ourselves on making Grundy County the most livable county in this state.”
In 2010, Onorato served as president of the Illinois Association of Realtors, and he has served on the Grundy County Board of Review for several years. He knows the issues every homeowner faces with their property tax assessment and tax bill, and has worked with both Democrats and Republicans to resolve property tax disputes annually.
“Laura Prosise Hrechko and Mike Onorato bring varied backgrounds and experience to the county board and are known for using common sense in making decisions. These two highly qualified candidates will provide much needed new leadership on the Grundy County Board and will work to unify the board to act in the best interests of the residents of Grundy County and not for their own political interests,” Mike Clemmons, chairman of the Grundy County Democrats, said in the release.
