Mitch Madness fundraiser June 27

Mitch Nystedt returned home after nearly a year of hospital stays after a stroke last June.

MORRIS – Mitch Madness will host a “Homecoming” party June 27 at Clayton’s Tap in Morris for Mitch Nystedt of Morris. Last June, Mitch suffered a massive stroke while undergoing surgery and it immobilized the right half of his body. He spent the next 11 months in and out of rehabilitation centers and hospitals, teaching his paralyzed muscles to work again. He returned home in May. 

The June 27 fundraiser is to help buy a hitchramp for the Nystedt vehicle to carry an electric wheelchair and also to help defray any future health-care costs Mitch may incur, according to a news release.

The event will feature Mitch’s favorite local band, “The Clients,” as well as numerous raffle baskets and a live auction, featuring auctioneer, Stan Knudson. Some items include sports memorabilia, such as signed Blackhawks jerseys; a wheelbarrow with a summer grilling basket and beverages, and.

Other prizes will include gardening items, golf packages, date nights, duck decoys, baseball items and a Kindle Fire HDX. 

The winning ticket of the John Deere Riding Lawnmower raffle also will be pulled that evening. 

The event begins at 7 p.m. June 27 at Clayton’s Tap, 122 W. Washington St. in Morris. Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door, or ahead of time from any Mitch Madness board member: Anne McDonnell, Dave and Kelly Auwerda, Judy Stemen, Pam Simpson, Doug Weber and Jim Zackavec.

Dad’s Grill will offer pulled pork sandwiches.
