State Rep. Anthony selected to join Edgar Fellows
State Rep. John Anthony, R- Plainfield, joins 40 emerging leaders chosen as 2014 Edgar Fellows in the third year of an initiative to stimulate cooperation across regional, political and ethnic lines.
Known for its prestigious reputation, the Edgar Fellows have a highly selective admittance standard and only accept the most qualified Illinois up-and-comers, according to a news release from Anthony’s office.
“It is truly an honor to have been selected to participate in the Edgar Fellows Program,” Anthony said in the release. “This will be an amazing opportunity for me to learn and grow alongside Illinois’ brightest leaders. I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s ideas and visions for a better Illinois.”
The Edgar Fellows Program accepts only 40 leaders that include elected and appointed officials from all levels of government, as well as Illinoisans who have distinguished themselves in the business world and civic activities.
“In the first two years of our effort, we have seen emerging leaders reflecting the state’s political, regional and ethnic diversity form friendships and bonds that will serve Illinois well when it comes to addressing major challenges. I fully expect the 2014 Fellows also will realize they have much more in common than they might have thought while they gain a greater understanding of different perspectives,” former Gov. Jim Edgar said in the release.
The fellows will gather from Aug. 3-7 in Urbana-Champaign for an executive training program hosted by Edgar and the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs.
