Police searching for person of interest in stabbing in Minooka
MINOOKA – Police continued to search late Friday for a person of interest in the stabbing that took place earlier in the day inside World Class Distribution warehouse in Minooka.
According to scanner reports, authorities are looking for a black male, 6 foot tall, wearing a gray T-shirt, jeans, a red baseball cap and black work boots.
Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer confirmed that authorities were looking for a black male as a person of interest and as of 8:15 p.m. Friday he was not in custody. He said the person of interest is from Joliet and fled the scene in a vehicle.
If the man is not apprehended overnight, Meyer said law enforcement officials intend to pursue charges based on leads given at the scene.
The victim is a 31-year-old man from Country Club Hills, Meyer said, and was transported to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Early scanner traffic stated the victim was reported as being stabbed multiple times. As of 8:15 p.m. the victim was in stable condition with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to Meyer, who said the man would be monitored overnight.
James DeWitt, who said he works at the warehouse as a reach truck operator, said an employee stabbed another employee in the freezer sometime between 4 and 4:30 p.m. Friday and then fled the building.
An ambulance was called to the warehouse, 1510 Cargo Court, but staged at Minooka Road and International Parkway until the scene was secured for them to go in.
World Class Distribution administrative offices in Fontana, California, said the company would issue a news release, and had no immediate comment when contacted late Friday afternoon.
