CHANNAHON – Ninety golfers battled it out at Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club in Channahon last month for a berth into the most prestigious amateur golf tournament in the country.
Only the three lowest scores advance to play in a field of more than 300 golfers at the U.S. Amateur Championship, a weeklong match-play tournament from Aug. 11 to Aug. 17 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. The U.S. Amateur Championship is the leading annual golf tournament in the United States for amateur golfers, organized by the United States Golf Association, according to a news release.
“Hosting a U.S. Amateur qualifying brings in some of the best golfers in Illinois and other parts of the country to Channahon, it’s an honor to be chosen”, Brian Smith, course manager said in the release.
The Chicago District Golf Association coordinates local qualifying locations for the national golf tournaments, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and the U.S. Public Links tournaments. Heritage Bluffs also has hosted a U.S. Public Links qualifier and two U.S. Kids Golf Qualifiers as well as a number of Illinois Junior Golf Association events.
Heritage Bluffs, a Channahon Park District Facility, offers a challenge for the serious player and fun for the more casual player across its rolling acres that offer scenic beauty. For information visit www.heritagebluffs.com or call 815-467-7888.
