MAZON – About 160 area families took part in the We Care of Grundy County mobile food pantry sponsored by Kay Olson on July 9 at the Mazon City Park.

With a total of 8,996 pounds of food delivered, each household received about 56 pounds of food, including 20 pounds of frozen meat and a wide variety of other items like potatoes, carrots, watermelon, macaroni and cheese and bread.

The next mobile food pantry is sponsored by First Christian Church and will take place on Aug. 13 in the church’s parking lot at 455 W. Southmor Road., Morris. Registration will begin at about 3:45 p.m. Distribution will begin at 5 p.m.

Any family that resides in Grundy County and is in need of assistance with food is welcome to come to the mobile food pantry. Attendees are asked to provide proof of their residency either with a valid drivers’ license, state identification or utility bill with their current Grundy County address.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to bring a container to carry the items they will receive; plastic laundry baskets and wheeled carts work well. It is not necessary to let us know if you plan to attend the distributions, but if you have any questions, call the We Care office at 815-942-6389.

Upcoming mobile food pantry sponsors include Mazon State Bank, ITW Filtration & Seco Systems, Morris Hospital, and the village of Diamond and Mayor Terry Kernc.

We Care organizes mobile food pantries that take place the second Wednesday of each month in Grundy County. Visit www.wecareofgrundy.com, and click on “Upcoming Events” for the year’s schedule.
