NEWARK – Originally being pursued by Morris police, a Peoria man was arrested by LaSalle County sheriff’s deputies after a police chase.

Joshua L. Foster, 27, was arrested early Wednesday morning by LaSalle on charges of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, driving while license suspended, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, resisting a peace officer, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two outstanding warrants out of Peoria and Putnam counties for theft and failure-to-appear on a driving while license suspended charge, according to a news release from LaSalle County.

Foster also was cited for speeding 100 mph in a 55 mph zone, driving in the wrong lane and improper lane usage, according to the release.

Morris police are pursuing charges, as well, said Morris Deputy Chief John Severson.

“The reports are still being prepared,” he said.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department first encountered Foster on July 13 and attempted to pull him over on a traffic charge. He took off when a deputy had him stopped and Foster was not caught by Grundy deputies or Morris police who helped pursue him, said Sheriff Kevin Callahan. The sheriff said a number of tickets were issued for Foster and given to the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s office for warrants.

About 10 days later on Tuesday night, Morris police see Foster and are aware he is wanted. He is followed to a gas station in Morris on Tuesday night where officers try to pin him in, Severson said. Foster allegedly was going to “ram” one of the officer’s vehicles so when the officer tried to avoid being hit, Foster allegedly did not yield to the officers and again eluded police.

He was pursued to Interstate 80 at which time he moved into LaSalle County where sheriff’s deputies picked up the pursuit, Severson said.

Foster was pursued on Route 71 north and was finally caught in Newark in Kendall County, according to the LaSalle news release. Foster was transported to the hospital before he was released and taken to the LaSalle County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of a bond hearing.
