MORRIS – The Veterans Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) from Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital is continuing its monthly visits to Morris and will be back in Morris on Monday.
The Hines MMU comes to Morris on the first Monday of each month and will be outside the Morris American Legion, 212 W. Washington St., Morris, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Mobile Medical Center will be in Minooka from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Minooka Village Hall, 121 E. McEvilly Road, Minooka. The VA’s Vet Center will be at the Grundy County Veteran’s Assistance Commission office, 1802 N. Division St., Suite 405, Morris, Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon and will continue visits on the first Thursday of each month.
This Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, a representative from the Illinois Department of Employment Services also will be at the Grundy County VAC office. The representative will be assisting veterans and their family members with job search assistance and resources.
“These services are being offered in the Grundy County area as part of the Grundy County VAC’s effort to get the services that our veterans need offered locally. Since Grundy County does not have any VA facilities or state of Illinois offices, we encourage veterans to take advantage of the mobile services that these agencies provide,” said Ken Buck of the VAC in a news release.
Hines VA Hospital is using the MMU to reach out to veterans to provide them with VA healthcare. The 38-foot MMU features two exam areas, a counseling room, on-the-spot enrollment and more.
Services the Vet Center offers include individual and group counseling; family counseling for military related issues; bereavement counseling; outreach and education; and more. Vet Center services are free to eligible veterans. For information about the Vet Center, call 708-444-0561 or 877-927-8387 or visit www.vetcenter.va.gov.
For services the veteran or family needs to bring a copy of their DD214 (discharge documents). If you do not have a copy, the VAC can assist you with obtaining it. To contact the VAC, call 815-941-3152.
