MORRIS – For more than 10 years, Century 21 Coleman-Hornsby has held a steak fry to benefit a local charity.

This year the beneficiary was Special Connections of Grundy County, whose mission is to connect people with disabilities to their community through social interaction, education, recreational opportunities and shared information, according to a news release from Century 21.

The steak fry was co-chaired by Tom Smego and Jim Maskel, who organized the event where the agents of Century 21 Coleman-Hornsby cooked and served over 500 steak sandwiches.

“We are honored to present Special Connections of Grundy County with a check in the amount of $2,934,” Maskel said in the release.

Smego added, “We do this every year, and we really appreciate the support we get from the community. This year the weather cooperated, and we had a wonderful turnout for the steak fry.”

Jennifer Price, board president of Special Connections, was very appreciative to receive the donation.

“We are so happy to receive this generous check, which we will use toward a special project. Thank you, Century 21 Coleman-Hornsby,” she said in the release.

Since forming four years ago, Special Connections has held numerous events and has helped many participants. Some of the programs have included bowling, basketball, swimming, golf and more. Recently, Trinity Services has teamed up with Special Connections for office space at 1539 W. Route 6 in Morris.

“It is great to help such a wonderful organization that we know will put this donation to good use. I am so proud of our agents who are always excited to volunteer their time to give back to the communities that we serve,” Shawn Hornsby, owner of Century 21 Coleman-Hornsby, said in the release.

Century 21 Coleman-Hornsby is at 1802 N. Division St., Morris. For information, call 815-942-9190.
