Pieces from the Heart Quilt Guild meeting set

MORRIS – Pieces from the Heart will meet at 7 p.m Thursday at the First Midwest Bank building, 220 W. Main St., Morris, on the third floor.

The Fabric Center will be demonstrating the scan and cut machine. There will be a short business meeting, refreshments and show and tell. Visitors welcome. For information, call Debbie 815-671-1546.

Genealogical Society meeting set for Saturday

COAL CITY – The Will/Grundy Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Coal City Public Library, 85 N. Garfield, Coal City.

The program will be given by Gary Ward, the president of the Lockport Genealogical & Historical Society. Entitled “Brunson-Sisson Cemetery Revisited,” it will tell the story of an old pioneer cemetery which was threatened by encroaching development and was moved in 1998. Gary had presented an earlier version of this program to WGGS, and now with newly added material he will give us another look at the cemetery’s history.

Also, at this meeting there will be the election of WGGS officers for the 2014-15 year. Members and guests will be treated to an old-fashioned ice cream social.

Class on fly fishing

to be offered Saturday

WILMINGTON – From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Wilmington Island Park District’s North Island Park, will be an introduction to fly fishing course.

Get introduced to basic equipment, knots, and insect and fly patterns, as well as casting and fishing instruction. Equipment will be provided. Participants must be able to wade in slow moving water at depths up to two feet. The program is for ages 14 and older and costs $12 a person.

Library to host American Indian bead craft program

The Morris Area Public Library will host an American Indian bead craft program for kids in grades first through third from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 13. This craft program is sponsored by the Edward and Valerie Hatcher family in memory of their daughter, Catherine. All children must be registered to attend. Limited seating is available.
