Roundup: Frank Welch Memorial takes place at Grundy tonight
MORRIS – The fifth annual Frank Welch Memorial “94” presented by Rod Baker Ford will take place tonight at the Grundy County Speedway. The program will consist of a 94-lap event in three segments 30, 30 and 34 with three different inverts and possibly three different segment winners. In other words, something for everyone.
A unique scoring system of consistency a competitor must maintain will declare the overall winner, lowest score wins. The 94 Lap Super late model event will carry a record purse for tonight’s competition, with a star-studded field expected. The event will also feature a full program of Street Stocks and STARS Promotion 4 cylinders.
The event honors the legendary Frank Welch, who was a member of the Grundy County Agricultural District Fair Board for more than 50 years, and served as its president for more than 30 years, as well as serving as Race Promoter for the Grundy County Speedway from 1971 until his death in June 2009.
Past Frank Welch 94 winners include Brett Sontag (2010), Eddie Hoffman (2011 and 2012) and Ricky Baker (2013).
The gates open at 6 p.m. Friday, with time trials set for 6:45 p.m. and the first race getting the green flag at 8 p.m. Three Division feature races will highlight the program Including Illinois Truck & Equipment Super Late Model, Street Stocks, and STARS Promotion 4 Cylinders.
Tickets for adults are $15, seniors are $12, and children ages 11 and younger are free. As always, there is free parking.

Beecher 10, Minooka 2: Hannah Justake had two hits to lead Minooka, while Kynsey Cryder, Maggie Joustras, Maddy Muzzey, Maddie Gombosi and Stephanie Nolan each had one hit.
