MONEE – The Morris Chiefs varsity football team picked up its second straight win Saturday, defeating the Monee Mavericks, 28-18.
Chad McElrath led the Chiefs with 110 rushing yards and had 77 yards in kick returns. He returned one kick 67 yards for a touchdown and added another TD on the ground. Austin Hatcher had 75 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Dakota Revels ran for 35 yards. Daqwon Hopper had 19 yards rushing and a TD.
Tyler Petty spearheaded the Chiefs defense with 13 tackles, while Revels had four and McElrath, Hather and Hopper had three each.
Hopper added an interception and a 31-yard return.
Monee JV 33, Chiefs 12: Jason Barnett led the Chiefs with 81 rushing yards, while Darrion Hopper ran for 72 yards. Savannah Melby completed a 20-yard pass and Evan Lindemuth had a 14-yard kick return.
Lindemuth led the defense with eight tackles, a fumble recover and a sack, while Hopper and Jorge Loza had seven tackles each.
Monee Lightweights 40, Chiefs 0: Zak Alesky had 6 rushing yards to lead the Chiefs, while Noah Willock had a 15-yard kickoff return. Christopher Gonzalez led the defense with six tackles, while Willock, Alesky and Dimitri Lindemuth had three.
Chiefs Superlights 19, Monee 0: Dimitri Lindemuth led the Chiefs with 119 rushing yards, including touchdown runs of 60 and 56 yards, and a PAT. Alex Frieff had 59 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Demetrius Hopper led the defense with 12 tackles, while Donovan Revels had seven and Lindemuth six. Dakota Goff had five tackles and a forced fumble.
Morris-Minooka tickets: Morris Community High School will be selling football tickets for Friday night’s game at Minooka. Tickets go on sale Wednesday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and are being sold in the athletic office (Door 31, the entrance to the Morris Rec Center) at MCHS.
Ticket prices, set by hosting Minooka High School, are $4 for adults, $2 for junior high and high school students and $1 for elementary school students and senior citizens. Children 5 and under are free with an adult.
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS GOLF
Lemont Shoot-Out: Minooka finished third in the 14-team event at Broken Arrow Golf Course in Lockport on Friday with a score of 315. Leading the way for the Indians were Kyle Sheppard and Dan Anfield, who both turned in rounds of 77. Ryan Johnson shot a 79, Mike Klover had an 82, Noah Lindmark finished with an 83 and Steve Andreano shot 87.
Morris finished 12th with a score of 365 and was led by Jake Hulbert, who shot 81. Other scores for the Redskins were Nick McPherson (87), Dylan Callahan (96), Dalton Onsen (101), Hailey Hoagland (109) and Kendall Enger (121).
GRADE SCHOOL BASEBALL
Coal City 3, Joliet St. Paul 2: In a game that featured two defending state champions (Coal City in Class 3A, St. Paul in Class 1A), the Warriors picked up a big win Friday.
Aaron McMurtrey singled in Austin Pullara for the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning.
Jack Bunton allowed only one hit in four innings and he received relief help from Keegan Gagliardo and Payton Hutchings. The trio combined for five hits, six strikeouts and no earned runs.
Other key hitters for the Warriors (4-1) were Drew Moir with an RBI single, Hutchings with 2 hits and Gagliardo with a hit and run scored.
GRADE SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Minooka 9, Antioch 1: Katie Spillie gave up four hits and a run in the win for Minooka.
Bella Alessio, Brooke Sulima, Hannah Justake, Cierra Bachmann, and Maggie Joutras each had two hits.
