Peace Chapel holding anniversary dinner

MORRIS – Peace Chapel Assembly of God Church on School Street in Morris is holding an Anniversary Celebration on Sunday on the occasion of its 65th year. All friends, attendees and former attended are invited to attend. A fellowship hour will start at 9 a.m., with a special service at 10 a.m. A church picnic will follow at noon at Goose Lake State Park in the Prairie Grove Picnic Area.

West Lisbon Church to hold dinner

LISBON – The West Lisbon Church has scheduled a pork chop/chicken dinner, (catered by 5Bs from Waterman), and a basket raffle drawing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, on Labor Day at the Lisbon Grade School, 127 S. Canal St., Newark.

Tickets are $10 and $11 and are available at the church in advance and at the door the day of the event. Meals include meat, coleslaw, applesauce, baked beans, beverage, and a slice of fresh homemade pie or cake or kringla. Kids hot dog meals are also available.

The basket raffle drawing for items like Norwegian lefse, calligraphy by a local artist, baskets with a Christmas theme, and several other donated specialty items will be held at 1 p.m. with all proceeds realized going to Christmas gifts for missionaries overseas. Raffle tickets can be purchased on Labor Day prior to the drawing.

Mazon Methodist to hold luncheon and bake sale

MAZON – Starting at 7 a.m. Sept. 6, the Mazon Methodist Women's Circle will be having a luncheon and bake sale at the Mazon American Legion Post #352, 508 Depot St. Maps of the Mazon All Town Garage Sales, which are being held the same day, will be available there also. Stop by for a delicious barbecue sandwiches or a slice of homemade pie.

Peace LC to hold Rally Day

MORRIS – Peace Lutheran Church is holding a Rally Day, ministry fair and picnic on Sept. 7, immediately following the 9 a.m. worship service.

Rally Day events will include a Ministry Fair that will highlight groups and activities, and a picnic on the lawn (guests are asked to bring a dish to share). Youth can participate in a bean bag tournament, and there will be an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Rally Day celebrates the beginning of a new Christian education year; children sign up for Sunday School classes, and members are guests learn about opportunities to participate in the life of the church.

Joliet Diocese schedules 'Come and See' event in Coal City

COAL CITY – The Biblical Institute of the Diocese of Joliet is registering new students for Biblical Institute site at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish in Coal City from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9. Those interested in learning the Bible, but aren't sure this program is for them, are invited to attend the "Come and See" preview event to learn about the program. Prayer gathering planned for Sept. 11

MORRIS – "Cry Out America," a nationwide prayer gathering, is scheduled for noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the lawn of the Grundy County Courthouse in Morris.

“Cry Out America” is a united effort seeking deep transformation and a Christ –centered awakening in every state, every county, every church and every heart in the nation. This is a gathering with focused prayer for the spiritual condition of our community and the nation. We will be praying for our families, churches, government, military, schools. And businesses and will be led by local pastors, government leaders, and the county coordinator.

Christian Speaker Ray VanderLaan to speakin Morris

MORRIS – First Christian Church is set to host nationally known speaker Ray Vander Laan on Nov. 7 and 8.

Vander Laan is the host of the 12-part video series “That the World May Know” filmed in partnership with Focus on the Family. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Nov. 7, with the event to start at 7 p.m. On Saturday, doors will open at 8 a.m. for a continental breakfast with the teaching to start at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served and the event will conclude about 4 p.m.

Ham Supper set in Plattville

PLATTVILE – The Plattville United Methodist Church’s traditional Ham Supper has been scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20. The all-you-can-eat ham supper buffet includes baked ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, cole slaw, and homemade pies. Carryouts also are available. The “Country Store” will be open during the evening selling homemade goodies, garden produce and craft items. A silent auction and raffles – with a variety of items including handmade wooden creations, gift cards and themed gift baskets – also will be held. The church is 8 miles north of Morris and 2 miles east of Route 47 at 13025 Church Road.

Catholic High School Information Fair

PLAINFIELD – Representatives from many area Catholic High Schools will at St. Mary Immaculate Parish, 15629 S. Route 59 in Plainfield, from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 21 for an annual Catholic High School Information Fair.

Prospective students and their families are invited to stop by any time during the morning to talk with the school staff. You can learn about everything from academics and athletics to tuition and uniforms.

Participating schools include: Aurora Central Catholic High School, Benet Academy in Lisle, Joliet Catholic Academy, Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, Nazareth Academy High School in LaGrange Park, Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, Rosary High School in Aurora, and St. Francis High School in Wheaton.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church offering bible study

MORRIS – Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 202 W. Jefferson St., is having Thursday evening bible studies this summer at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Lohse is teaching on topics such as spiritual warfare, death, stewardship, worship, bible interpretation and suffering. Special senior worship service to be held
