The Grundy County Sheriff's Office has extended the application period for its Sheriff's Police Explorer program.

Applications will be accepted through Monday; however, applicants must be available Sept. 10 to take the written exam and be ready for an oral interview.

The explorer positions are open to young men and women between the ages 14 to 20 who have an interest in law enforcement as a profession, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Explorers have a hands-on, close-up chance to learn how the law works. Law enforcement exploring provides educational training programs for young adults on the purposes, mission and objectives of law enforcement.

The program provides career orientation, leadership opportunities and community service activities. Its goals are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens, according to the news release.

Applications are available at the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, 111 E. Illinois Ave. Morris. For information, call 815-941-3122.
