MORRIS – Nothing says fall like hayrack rides and pumpkins.

We Care of Grundy County is inviting residents to spend a day on the Tesdal family farm to celebrate fall and raise money for the group’s various programs.

“This is a very family oriented event as well as a major fundraiser for We Care,” said Denise Gaska, executive director. “There will be something there for everyone. We looked at it from every angle.”

The event is Sunday rather than Saturday this year. Instead of a college football tailgating theme, it’s centered around families.

“It gives people a different setting for a fundraiser. It gives off a family atmosphere,” Tom Tesdal said. “It’s an experience many don’t get, and I like to show off what my mom and dad worked their whole life for.”

The event still will offer football, with professional-level games shown on three big screens in The Farm Bar.

“We’re very fortunate to have a place that is already all set up to cater to the not-for-profits who want to do a fundraiser,” Tesdal said.

For the kids, there will be hayrack rides, a petting zoo, a treasure hunt, a bounce house, face-painting and a pumpkin decorating contest.

For shoppers, a small artisan and craft fair will be held.

“The fair will be on the smaller scale, but will give those who like to shop something to look at,” Gaska said.

No family event is complete without the family pet, so a pet pageant will be held, with animals judged in two categories: beauty and brains.

“The dogs will be able to strut their stuff,” Gaska said.

Food is available from noon to 4 p.m. from Birdman BBQ and from 4 to 7 p.m. from Chapin’s Catering. Gaska said the cost of food and alcohol is not included in admission.

The event also will offer fall family photos by ELBE Photography, wine and beer tasting by Feeney’s Package Liquor, country dance lessons by Lonnie Mathison and a bean bag tournament.
