Operation St. Nick donates to fill up We Care pantry
Operation St. Nick recently sponsored a “Fill the Pantry” date at We Care of Grundy County. The organization donated $650 to We Care, which purchased over 3,477 pounds of food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Operation St. Nick volunteers unloaded the food from the NIFB truck and stocked it on We Care's pantry shelves. The NIFB is able to provide food to food pantries at prices that are unattainable in grocery stores. The delivery that Operation St. Nick purchased for We Care included such items as 14-ounce boxes of cereal for 22 cents each, free donuts, 12.9- ounce frozen pizzas for 15 cents each and 8-ounce packages of turkey lunch meat for 11 cents each. “We were glad to have the opportunity to help We Care fill the pantry and hope that others can continue to keep the pantry full,” said Linda Baker, one of the Operation St. Nick volunteers. “This way, the people of Grundy County that need to use the pantry always have much needed food in their homes.” In order to ensure sufficient food supplies for those who visit the pantry, We Care would like to have a Fill the Pantry date each month. There are still three dates available for 2008. If your organization would like to schedule a “Fill the Pantry” date, call We Care of Grundy County at 815-942-6389. Upcoming Fill the Pantry sponsors include Morris Kiwanis, Equistar and Rezin Orthopedic. We Care is a local nonprofit agency that provides emergency assistance to Grundy County residents in the form of food, rent, utility and prescription assistance. We Care is a United Way partner agency and is funded primarily by private donations. |

![]() Lincecum, Greinke win Cy Young awardsZack Greinke justly won the American League Cy Young award earlier this week. I'm not so sure Tim Lincecum of San Francisco deserved his second straight win in the NL, which he received today. |
