Gardner resident drives through gate, attacks man

A GARDNER man was charged with felony criminal damage to property and battery after incidents at the South Wilmington Fireman's Club about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9.

Ryan Aichele, 20, 114 W. Washington St., Gardner, was charged with driving through the southeast gate at the club, causing more than $300 damage. He was also charged with battery for striking Shane Knight in the face.

Deputy Anthony Cheshareck reported he met with Knight, whose eye was swollen shut. Knight was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for treatment.

Knight told the deputy he was sitting on the beach with a group when he walked away. He was then attacked by Aichele. The deputy reported one witness said Aichele kicked Knight while another said he punched him three times.

While at the club, the deputy reported he was told someone had driven through the southeast gate of the club, causing extensive damage.

Deputy Angelo Sallese was able to call Aichele who said he was in Braidwood. Braidwood police took Aichele into custody and held him for the deputies.

Aichele was transported to the county jail, where he was held for a court appearance on the felony charge.

Lincecum, Greinke win Cy Young awards

Zack Greinke justly won the American League Cy Young award earlier this week. I'm not so sure Tim Lincecum of San Francisco deserved his second straight win in the NL, which he received today.
